Exercise for Weight Loss: 7 Steps to Success

One of the best ways to change your body composition is to combine diet and exercise. A good weight-loss workout plan will include cardiovascular activity to burn extra calories with strength training to build and shape the muscles. So how do you get started? These seven steps will help you set up a weight-loss exercise plan that works.

Be sure you are healthy enough for exercise. It is generally a good idea to visit your doctor to be sure that you are healthy enough for vigorous exercise. Even if there are physical barriers that prevent you from participating in some popular forms of exercise, your physician may be able to suggest modifications that can be made so that you can begin a workout plan.

You may also want to connect with other experts at the beginning of your plan. If you have physical limitations or previous injuries, a physical therapist may be able to help. Or a visit with a personal trainer may be worth the investment, as well. A good trainer will assess your level of fitness, help you set goals and design a weight-loss workout routine for you to follow.

Don't feel pressured to buy tools or gimmicks. The most common question asked by new exercisers is: what is the best exercise for weight loss? The answer is simple. The best weight-loss exercise is the one that you do. It is not necessary to buy a set of DVDs or an expensive new piece of equipment to lose weight.

At the beginning of a new exercise plan, focus on building a fitness habit. Once regular exercise is part of your daily schedule you can make adjustments to the type and intensity of your workout. But in the beginning, consistency is the key to success. So choose activities that you enjoy doing.

Grab a few friends for company and accountability. One of the best predictors of success in a weight-loss exercise plan is social support. If your friends make exercise more enjoyable, you are more likely to continue the habit. Friends will also help to hold you accountable.

If your immediate circle of friends is not interested in participating in your new weight-loss workout, then look a little further. Would some co-workers like to join you for an aerobics class after the office? Perhaps you have neighbors that would be willing to put the kids in strollers and walk or run through the neighborhood.

Get equipped with exercise clothing. Invest in a good pair of shoes and breathable workout clothing. For your first purchase, you may want to avoid the big box retailers and go to a sport-specific store. Neighborhood walking and running stores are great resources. Often these smaller owner-operated stores have staff that are actively involved in the sport and can make specific recommendations for fit and wear.

Once you make the initial purchase, make new workout shoes or clothing an incentive for continued success. Set short-term goals and reward yourself with a new outfit that will make you feel more comfortable and confident during future workouts.

Write out a plan. It's easy to decide that you want to exercise. Getting it done is the hard part. There will always be another task, job or priority that can get in the way of your workout. To be sure that your workout remains a top priority, get out a calendar and schedule each activity in advance.

Once you have the plan in writing, post it in a highly visible spot. Let it serve as a constant reminder. Set out workout clothing and pack a gym bag the night before your workout.

Vary your workouts. Exercise for weight loss should include aerobic activity, which raises your heart rate, strength training that builds muscle, and flexibility training to increase range of motion in the joints and decrease stress.

When you schedule your weight-loss workouts, try to vary the activity that you do every day. For example, you may want to jog on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays grab the bike and head to a park for some push-ups, lunges, and sit-ups. Stretch and balance in yoga on Sunday.

Use active recovery days. Try to do something every day. That's right, no days off! Remember that when you schedule your workouts you will vary the type of activities you assign to each day. If you know you are going to do a longer or harder workout one day, schedule an easy workout, an active recovery, for the day after.

Active recovery workouts get your blood pumping but are not vigorous. Easy lap swimming, a gentle yoga class, and a long walk with a friend could all be recovery day workouts.

Remember, the most important component of your new weight-loss exercise plan is consistency. Maintain a healthy diet plan and focus on getting the workout completed each day. The healthy habits you build at this stage will keep you on track throughout your entire weight-loss experience.

Exercise for Absolute Beginners: Indoor Bikes

Indoor bikes are a great way to experience bicycling even if you never learned how to ride a traditional bike. An indoor bike allows you to feel like you are on a bicycle without having to worry about the safety issues that riding on the open road brings. In addition to offering aerobic exercise, it also improves the muscle tone of your hips, buttocks and thighs.

You will find computerized and non-computerized stationary bikes, but those extra features don't necessarily provide a better workout. Computerized models may have a display that shows your cadence or heart rate. Calorie counters on exercise machines are known to be largely inaccurate so they're not necessarily worth using, in my opinion.

Most gyms have both traditional, upright stationary bikes and recumbent (semi-reclined) bikes. Upright bikes are almost identical to regular bikes -- expect for the fact that they're stationary. Recumbent bikes position you differently; you sit in them with the pedals and your feet in front of you, rather than below you. These bikes are ideal for someone who has back problems because they support the lower back while upright bikes do not.

You can set the resistance level on most exercise bikes. It is important that you do not set the resistance too high when you are first starting out. You want to get a good work out, but cycling should not actually hurt, even for a beginner. If you are in continual pain, it is a sign that your resistance is set too high for your fitness level.

Spin classes are a relatively new variation on indoor cycling. Spin classes attempt to replicate more closely the experience of on-road biking. The pedal action and resistance in a spin class will differ from what a beginner would experience with a regular stationary bike.

Spin classes are led by an instructor and include upbeat music. They offer varied levels of intensity and may sometimes include guided imagery, which means the instructor helps you envision different scenarios as you complete the workout. Spin classes are usually quite intense so you may wish to ride a regular stationary bike for some time and work up to joining a spin class.

You can also ride a spin bike on your own without being in a spin class. Spin bikes have a more narrow seat, are more adjustable, and provide a wider range of resistance. You will find that the pedals are smoother to operate on a spin bike than on a regular bike.

Spin bikes do not offer the electronic gizmos that some other bikes do, but most spin bikers I know say it is worth sacrificing the bells and whistles to experience an exercise that is so similar to true outdoor biking in the comfort of their gym.

Know About The Benefits of Treadmills And Other Exercise Machines

Fitness has become an essential factor these days. There are a number of people coming up with the problems of chronic ailments, high blood pressure and high sugar. These diseases have reduced the life span for many people as they have a severe effect on the lives of the people.

Where the world is progressing with advanced technology and modern standard of life, there are life spans reducing. The younger generation of today love to eat the junk food and so they spend their days on burgers, fries and pastas, but they do not know that how this type of food will affect their life span. A big part of the life spends in tough working schedules. This has reduced the life span as there are less physical activities carried out for the hectic job schedules. This has resulted into a lot of problems. The long hours sitting jobs or the grueling marketing jobs, nothing lets them take proper food in proper amount. There is hardly intake of nutritious food throughout the day. The early life hectic job schedules have changed the lifestyles to a great extent.

It is not only the right nutritious food that will help you to stay fit, but a good amount of exercise is also needed for leaving a healthy life. Researches have proved that if you work out daily for at least half an hour, then you can increase your life span. A small amount of workout is good for your health as that will help you to be active throughout the day. In today's world, people spend less time at home and also do not take proper rest throughout the night. This hampers the metabolic activities and results in life taking diseases. There are different kinds of gym equipments available on several websites. You may not have twenty four hours in your hand, but can at least spare half an hour before you walk out of your house. This will not only help you to remain active, but will save you from many other diseases as well.

Let me discuss some of the benefits that you can get if you are working with Treadmills and other equipments for gym:

1) Helps to check your weight

If you do proper exercises, then you can maintain your weight properly. There are different type of exercises that you can do for one hour in a day and this will help to burn down the extra fat in your body.

2) You stay healthy

If you are doing regular exercises, then you can get a good health every day. Daily exercises produce high density lipoprotein that helps you to stay fit and active. The cholesterol level reduces and the triglycerides are good for health. Good physical activity can help you to combat problems like depression, metabolic syndrome, stroke, arthritis and others.

3) You can improve your mood and feel energetic

If you can walk for thirty minutes on a treadmill in the morning or paddle the Exercise Bikes, then it will make you feel energetic and you will have a good mood throughout the day.

Thus, make your life a good one by doing exercises everyday for some hours. This will help you to have a long and a happy life.

The Most Popular Exercise Bikes In December 2012

Exercise bike sales are not usually that high just before Christmas, but sales remain pretty steady because they are often bought for other people as Christmas presents. So which ones are proving popular just before Christmas 2012?

Well two of the most popular exercise bikes are not actually conventional exercise bicycles at all. I am talking here about two low-cost machines that simply include the pedals and that's it.

These are actually quite convenient because they are easy to carry around, and you can pedal away at your desk whilst you are working if you want to. Alternatively you could sit down in the evening and burn lots of calories whilst watching your favourite TV programs, for example.

On a similar note, another bike that is topping the sales charts is the FitDesk Semi-Recumbent Pedal Desk bike. Indeed this $250 model is actually the number one selling bicycle as I write this article.

This FitDesk model provides you with both a desk and an exercise bicycle all in one, which is once again useful for people with busy lifestyles. It also allows you to read something whilst you are performing your workouts.

Out of the more conventional bikes, it seems to be the recumbent models that are proving to be equally as popular as the upright bikes.

Looking at the list of the best-sellers on Amazon.com, the recumbent bicycles feature heavily, and it is not just the cheaper models either.

Whilst some of the models are available for between $100 and $150, one of the top-sellers is the Schwinn 240, which costs just under $300.

This model provides you with 17 different workout programs, and there are 16 resistance levels to satisfy both beginners and those people who want more of a challenge.

There is now a newer version available that is also selling well, according to the latest sales figures. This model is the Schwinn 250, and it has a few more features than the 240 model, and costs approximately $100 more although there is not that much of a difference between them in all honesty.

Finally it is worth mentioning that upright bikes are still reasonable popular with consumers. For example the Body Rider Fan Bike, which costs around $100 at the time of writing, and the Schwinn AD2 Airdyne, which costs over $300, are both generating a decent amount of sales.

However the current trend seems to be for the recumbent and desk-style bikes, rather than the more conventional bicycles. So it will be interesting to see if this trend continues into 2013.

How to Lose Weight with an Exercise Bike Program

Your pants are a bit tight, you can't seem to stop eating junk, and you're tired all of the time. It's time to get healthy and lose weight. Combined with a more sensible diet, an exercise bike can help you achieve the results you want.

Ugh, the Diet.

So many people go wrong here. Forget fad diets, forget starvation. Slow and steady wins the race. Try changing one thing about your diet. Limit yourself to one soda a day. Stop skipping meals. If you always clean your plate, start leaving one or two bites. A total change in diet is work. If you go for a radical change, you are setting yourself up for failure. You'll be surprised how well small changes work.

The Right Bike Determines Your Success

This is a critically important part. There are literally hundreds of exercise bikes available. You have to be honest with yourself to discover the one that will work best for you. If you talk yourself into some fantasy world where your exercise plan is going to work this time even though there's nothing different, you're going to be disappointed. If you think ahead, you will buy the right bike for your needs. You will end up with a successful long-term exercise routine.

Think back to your last exercise routine attempt. Why did you stop? Did you suffer an injury? Did you get bored? Was it just too hard to do every day? Was it hard to find the time? Answer these questions truthfully. If you don't figure out where you went wrong, you won't be able to come up with a solution.

Avoiding and Working Through Injuries

If an injury caused you to stop working out, how did you sustain your injury? Becoming physically fit is supposed to help you prevent injuries, not cause them. There is an exercise bike for someone who has been injured working out. It's called a recumbent exercise bike. It's the kind found in a lot of health clubs. It has a large, bucket seat, and you sit back and low to the ground. It is perfect for people beginning a new exercise routine. It's also very good for back problems as it forces you to keep good posture. It puts no pressure on your joints, and you can keep working out even if you have minor injuries.

Overcoming Boredom

Did you get bored the last time you tried to workout on a regular basis? If you did, you are likely to get bored again. With exercise bikes, the solution is usually a bike with several different levels and riding programs. You can get bikes with different difficulty levels. This means that when it becomes too easy for you to pedal, you simply move up to the next level instead of having to ride longer (which just isn't likely to happen for the person who is easily bored). You can also get different programs. Programs give you variety and goals. They make you pedal harder, simulate conquering hills, and even sprinting for short periods.

Riding programs might not be enough for you. You might need a bike that you can hook up to your television that simulates riding through different courses. You can take a leisurely ride through a park or compete with other computer riders on a difficult obstacle course. These bikes might cost more up front, but if you don't invest in a bike that will let you sustain your workout, you're wasting money on anything less.

The coolest thing for game addicts who get bored is an interactive bike that plugs into a Sony Playstation or Playstation 2. It makes over 50 games interactive. Whatever is happening on your bike happens on the screen in bike, car, and similar games. There are all types of similar bikes available.

If you plan on listening to music or watching TV while you cycle, be sure to pay attention to features that will make the exercise bike quieter. It's also a good idea to get a quieter bike if you live with other people. For all you know, your workout time is going to be 5AM or midnight. A quieter bike won't disturb other people in your home.

Don't Try to Be Lance Armstrong Yet?

People beginning exercise programs are sometimes too ambitious. It's good to be excited, but you have to remain realistic. If your last exercise program failed because it was just too much work, don't make the same mistake again. Fight the urge to overdo your first workouts. It is critical to your long-term success that you start out slow. If you go from no exercise at all to 5 to 10 minute exercise bike workouts with little resistance, you are much more likely to avoid injury, soreness, and most of all, early feelings of defeat. If you aim too high - expecting to go from a sedentary lifestyle to 45 minute workouts immediately, for example - you are setting yourself up for failure. When you don't reach your unattainable goal, it is more likely you'll quit altogether to alleviate the feeling of failure that much sooner.

The perfect bikes for people who get a bit over-excited are exercise bikes with built in riding programs. You simply start out at the lowest level, and the bike determines your workout. You program in a small goal (10 minutes, 50 calories, or .25 mile) and when you reach that goal, your workout is over.

Finding the Time

You do have time to burn fat and calories on an exercise bike. No matter how intense your schedule is, there are people busier than you who find time to make an exercise routine work. They are not better than you. They don't have more than 24 hours in a day. They simply figured out how to make it work. You can, too.

It can be as simple as the time of day you chose to workout in the past. There is scientific evidence that people who are "morning people" or "night owls" are physically different. Different people have energy at different times. Think about when you work best. If you wake up without an alarm clock ready to go, you should exercise first thing in the morning. If you are a night owl, you should consider working out at night. You might find that you are one of the people who tire yourself out enough with a night workout to sleep like a baby.

You Can Do This!

Losing weight is not a punishment. You are smart enough to know how to eat a little better and become more active. If you are honest with yourself, you will choose the proper bike. You want to look forward to the workout itself. Don't get caught up in which bike burns more calories. Find an exercise bike you will enjoy riding. Figure out the time of day that's best for you to exercise. Make it like getting dressed or bathing - it's just something you do every day. You don't have to train for the Tour de France. You just have to get on and do something every day. Ten minutes a day will yield results. Bookmark this article for future motivation, find your exercise bike, and get busy!

Struggling To Lose Weight? Here's The Most Effective Diet And Exercise Plan (EVER!)

Are you struggling to lose weight? Are you tired of jumping on diet after diet and exercise plan after exercise plan... only to end up failing and feeling miserable? Read on to discover the most effective diet and exercise plan I have found to get the best results possible... FOR YOU!

In The Beginning...

300 pounds, a fat stomach, love handles, heavy breathing, pain in my back just from walking, and VERY low self-esteem. That's what I dealt with before I began my journey to transform my body!

Needless to say, I was desperate. I tried everything in the beginning. Diet pills, fad diets, starvation diets, and so much more. And you know what? Nothing worked! I just couldn't get that scale or my waistline to budge!

Then... I Had An Epiphany...

This epiphany drove me to finding the most effective diet and exercise program for ME... and as a result... I lost a TON of weight, I flattened my stomach, and so much more!

Can you guess what it was?

Well, I gave you a couple of hints in the beginning of this article and in the paragraph above...

I found a diet and exercise program for ME and I found a program I felt would get ME the best results.

In other words, I for one stopped messing around with unnatural diets and diet pills. That's something no matter what, I STRONGLY recommend you steer clear from. Secondly, I stopped trying to find the next best thing and what was working for OTHER PEOPLE. Instead, I looked for something I knew that I wouldn't have a problem STAYING CONSISTENT WITH!

And that right there my friend is the most effective diet and exercise plan: A plan that YOU are interested in trying and would not have a problem staying consistent with!

Why Is That So Important?

Well, one thing I learned (the hard way) is that if you want to get the best results, it all boils down to two words: Consistency + Results. Period.

If you first choose a natural diet and exercise program that YOU want to do and stay consistent with it, you are going to get results, if you get results, you are going to have ongoing motivation, if you have ongoing motivation, NOTHING can stop you from achieving the body of your dreams!

Now, How Do You Look For A Good Diet And Exercise Plan?

The only search criteria you need to have when searching for something you might want to try is one word: NATURAL. If it's natural, it can work for you.

So, what would be considered a natural diet?

A natural diet is something that is based on eating ALL types of foods without starving yourself or depriving yourself. Starvation and deprivation is a surefire way to slow down your metabolism and make you feel miserable.

Also, another thing to look for in a good diet is one that is based on doing natural techniques to boost your metabolism. A fast metabolism = faster fat loss.

A good exercise plan is one that is based on doing things that YOUR are trying to achieve with your body...

Are you just trying to get thinner? Then a workout based on moderate muscle building workouts and high intensity interval cardio, or doing long low intensity cardio would be ideal.

Are you trying to athletic? Then a workout based on strategic muscle building centered around strength building and explosive workouts, and high intensity interval cardio would be ideal.

Are you trying to build muscle? Then of course heavy muscle building workouts and low intensity cardio would be ideal.

Etc.

Bottom line, if you want to find the best program, base your decision on what YOU feel like you can stick with, make sure that it is something that can fit into YOUR lifestyle, make sure that it is fitting to YOUR goals, and of course, make sure that it is 100% natural.

How Much Exercise Should You Get Every Week
