Persistence And Determination

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated failures. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." Calvin Coolidge

Silent Cal was right on this one. Regardless of what big challenge you face, nothing can really stop persistence and determination. For the most part, it's not the big bold things we do that shape our lives. It's the little day in and day out habitual activities that determine our outcomes.

If you're trying to lose weight and get in shape, for most of us, it's not going to happen by going on a starvation diet or trying to burn 1000 calories a day through exercise. It's consciously avoiding 100 calories in food intake every day or burning 150 calories doing simple exercises. When you develop little, seemingly insignificant habits of eating a little less and exercising a little more... that's when you become unstoppable.

Forget the idea that you have to exercise hours a day or perform incredible, high intensity workouts. Also, forget that you have to avoid the foods you really enjoy. This is your life and you deserve to enjoy as much of it as possible. Being happy is much more important than being skinny.

However, if you want to slim down and shape up, it's not that hard. What you have to be is patient... be persistent and determined. Then develop an easy exercise routine you can do often, without fear of pain or strain. Likewise, make a list of foods you like along with the amount of calories associated with each one. The key to any weight loss journey is to consistently take in less calories than you burn off.

Exercise, particularly walking, can easily become one of life's great stress relievers. A 25 minute walk around the neighborhood will not only burn off an impressive amount of calories but, perhaps more importantly, it gives your mind a rest. You can walk with joy knowing that every step is burning fat.

Simple choices like drinking water rather than a soft drink or skipping the fries when you get a burger. Those little things mount up to a tremendous reduction in calories over time.

Too often, when people want to lose weight, they think they have to do radical, life altering, gyrations to make it happen. That's wrong. Just look at the guy on TV who became a spokesperson for a fast-food chain. He ate sandwiches and walked off 200-plus pounds. We don't know how long it took but we see the results. He's probably a millionaire now just because he was persistent and determined.

Once your momentum changes from gaining weight to losing weight, you're on an easy track toward reaching your desired size and shape.

Seven years ago Bob Westbrook designed the procedures that make up Joe's Fat Book. Now, he revisits the "Game" and provides a daily recap of his own 21-day adventure documenting the results of each day's activities. In addition, other observations are noted in hopes people who want and need to lose weight might be encouraged by his progress.
